Thank you for reading the story, How to Be Rich in Friends
Its takeaway is: Good friends help you find important things when you have lost them: your smile, your hope, and your courage.
Now grab your notebook or journal and if this line evokes something in you, write down what you are thinking.
If not, here are three prompts – borrowed from the story – to write about instead:
- Whether you have stayed in touch or moved away from each other emotionally, write about your best friend from childhood. Is there a specific memory you can laugh about right now?
- I advise befriending someone in your broad extended family. In my case, I am dear friends with my daughter’s mother-in-law. Write about your daughter’s mother-in-law, or about your mother-in-law, or about your sister-in-law. Would it be possible to be good friends with them? Why or why not?
- I believe you are never too old to make a new friend. Write about your newest friend. How did you meet? Did you click immediately or learn to like each other? What makes this person different from your other friends?
As always, write about one of these prompts or all of them. There is no right or wrong, just what feels best to you.
