Thank you for reading the story, Odd Life Lessons from the Gym.
Its one-line takeaway is: Life teaches you a new lesson every day if you are attentive enough to listen.
Now grab your notebook or journal and if this line evokes something in you, write down what you are thinking. (Maybe something you learned today…)
If not, here are three prompts – borrowed from the story – to write about instead:
- My personal trainer, Rob, insists that birthday cake and funnel cake are mandatory as part of a happy life. Write about one food item you consider mandatory for your happiness. Why is this food item so important?
- I find that a food journal helps keep me on track. It causes me to “report” every small indulgence, like a lollipop from a bank teller or a food sample at Costco. Describe a time when accountability helped you achieve a fitness, work, or personal goal. Who or what was holding you responsible?
- In this story, I learned that if you join a gym and you go there regularly you are bound to make some friends. Indeed, Rob-the-trainer is now a very dear friend. Write about an unexpected friendship that blossomed in an unlikely place (like a library, a laundromat, or an airplane).
As always, write about one of these prompts or all of them. There is no right or wrong, just what feels best to you.
