Thank you for reading the story, I’ve Got it Figured Out – This Is What Happiness Is.
Its one-line takeaway is: The secret to having it all is knowing you already do.
Now grab your notebook or journal and if this line evokes something in you, write down what you are thinking.
If not, here are three prompts – borrowed from the story – to write about instead:
- Do you have it figured out? What is happiness to you? Write your answer to this central question in life – or at least write about where you are on the journey to figuring it out.
- In the story, I write about having “everything” as opposed to having “every THING.” Make two lists, one of the “everything” in your life, and one of the “every THING.” Write about additions you would make to these lists as you seek happiness.
- As I write in the story, I know that buying new tchotchkes will only fill a spot on my shelf and will not fill a hole in my heart, and yet I still buy lots of stuff. Some would call this “shopping therapy.” Do you engage in such therapy? What are the pros and cons?
As always, write about one of these prompts or all of them. There is no right or wrong, just what feels best to you.
