Thank you for reading the story, Is There a Stigma to Getting Psychological Help? I Don’t Feel It.
Its takeaway is: Sometimes asking for help is the bravest move you can make. You don’t have to go it alone.
Now grab your notebook or journal and if this line evokes something in you, write down what you are thinking.
If not, here are three prompts – borrowed from the story – to write about instead:
- Thinking of your family of origin, what is their opinion of getting psychological help? Are they in favor or opposed and how does this impact your stance on the topic?
- Writing it in your journal – but don’t tell me! – what is your opinion of someone like me who has had scads of counseling over many years?
- Whether you have had counseling or not, write a short story of what such a session would sound like given the problems you are working through today. (Perhaps a pretend session with a pretend therapist can help you solve a current issue!)
As always, write about one of these prompts or all of them. There is no right or wrong, just what feels best to you.
