Thank you for reading the story, “My Personal State of the Union Address.”
Its takeaway is: You don’t have to have it all figured out to move forward…just take the next step.
Now grab your notebook or journal and if this line evokes something in you, write down what you are thinking.
If not, here are three prompts – borrowed from the story – to write about instead:
- No matter what your current age, there are various issues to be faced. Write a list of five issues that pop to mind. If you make a new list every few years, it will be interesting to note the disposition of yesterday’s problems and also to see how yesterday’s concerns compare to today’s.
- Do you have trouble keeping up with all the things that need keeping up with? If yes, write yourself a letter about it. You can either shake a finger at yourself and tell yourself to get your act together! Or you can write a supportive letter commiserating with the fact that there really is too much to keep up with these days.
- Have you experienced the death of a friend? Now’s the time to celebrate that person’s life in writing.
As always, write about one of these prompts or all of them. There is no right or wrong, just what feels best to you.
