A Special Report for Book Lovers

If you have followed these Fifth Tuesday Reports, you know I enjoy reading Ron Charles’s weekly Book Club in The Washington Post. In his January 6th edition, he talked about bestseller lists and reminded us that there is no single bestseller list. Different publications look at different sales data to create their own unique list. The Washington Post, for example, uses data on sales at indie bookstores. Recently, however, he asked a market information company, the NPD Group, for “raw data on best-selling hardback and paperback print books for 2022, across all U.S. retailers, in all genres.”
Shockingly, he found that he had reviewed NONE of the top 200 best-selling books in 2022! Indeed, “Not a single work of literary fiction published in 2022 appears among the top 200 titles!”
Here are the top 10 best-selling books in 2022. Ron Charles says we should refer to it as “The Year of Colleen Hoover.” Indeed, as you read on, you will see I have reviewed two of “CoHo’s” books from the list.
- “It Ends With Us,” by Colleen Hoover.
- “Verity,” by Colleen Hoover.
- “It Starts With Us,” by Colleen Hoover.
- “Where the Crawdads Sing,” by Delia Owens.
- “Ugly Love,” by Colleen Hoover.
- “Atomic Habits: an Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones,” by James Clear.
- “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo,” by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
- “Reminders of Him,” by Colleen Hoover.
- “November 9,” by Colleen Hoover.
- “Diper Överlöde: Diary of a Wimpy Kid Book 17,” by Jeff Kinney.

Lorie,
I’m an avid reader and never heard of Coleen Hoover! I did read Inheritance last year. Currently finished Three Sisters, Hannah’s War. And now reading People Love Dead Jews!
Eileen
I think Colleen Hoover, CoHo, is big because of her following on Tik Tok in their “Book Toc.” At any rate, she has 6 out of 10 spots on the top ten list for 2022. Isn’t that crazy???
