A Special Report for Book lovers
This is kinda crazy: According to Google Analytics, people from 103 countries have read my blogs and book reviews over the last 90 days! This fact impacts today’s Newsletter. In these Newsletters, I always share my five favorite books from the last quarter. Today I will also share the five most popular reviews from Google Analytics. And as always, in the case that I have read other books by one of the authors, I will list those titles as well. Thus, there are 14 books to read about in this report. Enjoy!
My Five Favorite Books This Quarter
Book Title: Mad Honey
Author: Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boylan
A very brief synopsis: When a young woman is found dead, the main suspect is her boyfriend. He is the son of an abusive man. Did he learn what he lived?
One more thing to share: My review includes how these two famous authors happened to write a book together (Twitter is involved) and shares the mechanics of how they actually did it.
*****
Book Title: Tom Lake
Author: Ann Patchett
A very brief synopsis: In her 20’s, Lara starred in Our Town – and had an affair with – an actor who went on to great fame. Decades later, her daughters want the details. Watch Lara tell all…while telling little!
One more thing to share: Patchett wrote the entire book on a treadmill desk while walking!
*****
Book Title: The Secret Life of Sunflowers
Author: Marta Molnar
A very brief synopsis: Johanna van Gogh-Bonger is the widow of Vincent van Gogh’s brother, Theo. After both men died, SHE made Vincent’s work known to the world.
One more thing to share: The back story of how this book got published is fascinating. Many publishers were interested but one-by-one they chose not to publish this now-very-successful-self-published book. Find out why…
*****
Book Title: The Five Star Weekend
Author: Erin Hilderbrand
A very brief synopsis: A social media influencer organizes a weekend trip for her best friend from each phase of her life: her teens, twenties, thirties, and midlife.
One more thing to share: This is the second book I have read by this author. From the two books, it appears that she clumps together lots of characters with interesting backstories and tells a lot about each of them.
*****
Book Title: Romantic Comedy
Author: Curtis Sittenfeld
A very brief synopsis: Behind the scenes at a Saturday Night Live type show, a famous male musician and a dorky female writer fall in love. Better yet, the author makes it believable!
One more thing to share: The frenetic pace of a typical week in the life of a comedy writer on a show of this nature will leave the reader breathless.
