A Special Report for Book Lovers

Greetings to new and returning subscribers! I post slice-of-life blogs on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. If there is a 5th Tuesday, I post a Special Report for Book Lovers. This is it!
As usual, I am sharing my five favorite books from the last several months. But talking about five books is never enough. Lucky for me, one of the books I will tell you about was a Reese’s Book Club pick. That’s the perfect excuse for me to share reviews of other books I have read thanks to Reese Witherspoon’s list. You will find more than a dozen such titles to peruse.
Just a reminder that I am now an Affiliate Marketer on Amazon. This means my book reviews will include a link to the book on Amazon. If you purchase the book using my link, I will earn a small commission. This is at no additional cost to you. More details here. Thank you for supporting my Book Blog in this manner.

Book Title: Sandwich by Catherine Newman
Brief synopsis: As three generations share a vacation cottage, we get the mom’s take on motherhood, marriage, the empty nest, menopause, aging parents, and more.
One more thing to say: If you are looking for snappy dialog and funny insights, this is the book for you. Here’s a chuckle for you now: “If menopause were an actual substance, it would be spraying from my eyeballs.”

Book Title: My Husband by Maud Ventura
Brief synopsis: This book chronicles a week in the life of a woman who is obsessively in love with her husband. I don’t want to spoil anything, but it has a very interesting ending…
One more thing to say: I loved this book, then hated this book. I almost stopped reading it! But what the heck, it’s short, so I kept going! By the time I reached that very interesting ending? I loved it!

Book Title: Group by Christie Tate
Brief synopsis: This memoir about the author’s experience in long-term group therapy was the November, 2020 pick for Reese’s Book Club.
One more thing to say: The author has a lot to process in therapy. She witnessed the drowning death of a friend’s father when she was thirteen. She also endured molestation as a teen. She struggled with bulimia for years. And she’s had many failed romantic relationships to analyze.

Book Title: Baumgartner by Paul Auster
Brief synopsis: Baumgartner is the last book written by Paul Auster. While it’s short on plot, it’s rich in Auster-isms! Fans of the late author will LOVE it.
One more thing to say: If by some chance you missed out on knowing this important American author, my review will give you information on his entire body of work along with a review of the newest book.

Book Title: The Guest by Emma Cline
Brief synopsis: A young woman who is a sex worker in New York messes up her relationship with a wealthy older man. She plots to get back into his good graces at a party he is throwing, but it’s a week away. It’s amazing – and cringe-worthy – to see how many ways she can get herself into trouble in a week’s time.
One more thing to say: So why am I recommending a cringe-worthy book? Again, it’s for the ending. There’s a lot to talk about, so the book is terrific for book clubs! BUT: No two people will have the same thoughts on exactly what happens at the end!
